Y presents family Zumba night

A free Zumba Family Fun Night will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Fri., Jan. 19 at the Simi Valley YMCA, 3200 Cochran St.

Program addresses post-holiday blues

Deborah Tucker, marriage and family therapist, will speak on “Getting Past the Post-Holiday Blues” from noon to 1 p.m. Wed., Jan. 17 at the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, 40 W. Cochran St., Ste. 100.

The program is part of the Wellness Wednesday series sponsored by the Chamber. The talk is free to the public.

Tucker is the owner of Families Counseling in Simi. She will give tips on causes and solutions for feeling down after the holidays.

Artists’ work on sale

The works of 20 artist members of the Simi Valley Art Association are on display and for sale at the SVAA’s gallery at space 295, Simi Valley Town Center, 1555 Simi Town Center Way.

Ten percent of all sales will help support the art departments at the local high schools.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

Poets invited to enter contest

The Ventura County Writers Club invites word wizards to enter its 17th annual poetry contest.

All genres of original unpublished poetry are eligible, and anyone can enter the contest.

Poems must be no longer than 31 lines, including the title.

The award ceremony will be held April 10. Winners are eligible for publication in the club’s hardbound biannual anthology as well as in the newsletter and on the website.

Entry fees range from $4 to $10. Prizes are $50 to $100 in the adult category, $25 to $50 in the teen (ages 13 to 17) category and $15 to $35 in the child (12 and under) category.
