Opportunities to get involved in the community, raise money for a cause and shop abound this weekend.


Attend the free opening reception for All Access 2: A Rock & Roll Art & Photography Exhibit from 6- to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Made By Millworks, 240 Pine. Ave.

Citizens can learn how to be more influential in their communities by attending a panel event with speakers representing various city departments and organizations including Mayor Robert Garcia’s office and Justin Rudd’s Community Action Team. The event will go from 10 a.m. to noon at the Los Altos Library, 5614 E. Britton Drive.


The El Dorado Nature Center will be hosting a free youth fishing derby from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fishing poles, tackle and bait will be provided and there will be lunch and raffle prizes. For more information call 562-570-1745.

Bring your pup and enjoy the fun at the annual Holiday Bone-anza to raise funds for the El Dorado Dog Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be vendors, food trucks, a silent auction, raffle and photo opportunities with Santa at the Good Neighbor Park, 2800 Studebaker Road.

Get a head start on holiday shopping and check out the Alternative Christmas Market’s unique offerings on Sunday. The market has handcrafted items including clothing, ornaments, cards, handbags, toys, jewelry from local and international non-profit cooperatives. Food will also be available for purchase to benefit Heifer Project. One market location will be at Los Altos United Methodist Church at 5950 E. Willow St. from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and another market at California Heights United Methodist Church at 3759 Orange Ave. from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
